Thinking About Home Education?

This site can not offer advice but here are a few pointers to consider and get you started.

Work with your school first.

Work with your school to sort out any problems. Consider also that you may not get access to certain support if you are not on a school roll. Ask in the Home Ed Forums.
Do not be forced into Home Education by your school, this is called 'off rolling'.

Do your Research.

You can find out about Home Education here at  Education Otherwise Site You can also search for your local Government 'Elective Home Education' pages. Ask in the FB groups before you make any decisions or contact.

Is it right for you and your family?

Do your research. Ask hundreds of questions on the Home Ed FB pages. Home education requires you to be proactive, find your own solutions and resources (luckily there is a world class education available to you, most of it for free and a hugely supportive network of Home Educators) you have to work at creating your own Home Education - it doesn't come out of a box.

Find your Home Ed Community on FaceBook

Do your research. Home Educators are hugely supportive of each other and have a wealth of experience and knowledge which they will share willingly with you.
1) First Find some Big UK wide Pages such as UK Home Education  and  Home Education UK
2) Search Facebook for some regional Home Ed group ie Home Ed or Home Education or Home Educators in Oxford or Norfolk etc
3) Ask your questions. There is no one right solution for Home Educating. You will have to build a solution which works for you. Rest assured there will be plenty of advice and support to help you.
4) Narrow it down even further. Search for Home Ed groups on FB in your local village, town city etc. Join and research.

Usually the first thing everyone is worried about and normally the last thing to actually worry about. There is a thriving, diverse, exciting, proactive, supportive, brilliant and friendly community of Home Educators probably right on your doorstep. If there isn't then set one up.  Find your local Home Ed community of FB, I promise you they are there.

Education - Exams.

A world class, high quality education is available to you, most of it for free. You have no idea at this stage just how many resources are out there. There is so much help and so much information. A 'Suitable Education' does not have to follow the National Curriculum. This site is a tiny drop in the ocean. Again do your research. Ask in the FB groups, search for subject specific specific Home Ed Groups such as 'Home Education UK Exams, A really good site is the Home Ed Exam WIKI here

Breathe, it will be alright. It will be alright because you have your child's best interest at heart. It will be alright because the legal responsibility for ensuring your child received a 'Suitable Education' was always yours, either 'At School' or 'Otherwise'. Breathe, it will be alright because there is a hugely supportive Home Education community who have your back. Breathe because a happy child will soar.

“Come to the edge," he said.
"We can't, we're afraid!" they responded.
"Come to the edge," he said.
"We can't, We will fall!" they responded.
"Come to the edge," he said.
And so they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.”
